The exiled barber, Sweeney Todd, returns to London seeking vengeance against the Judge who framed him and ravaged his wife. Todd's road to revenge leads him to Mrs Lovett, a failing pie shop owner. Mrs Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient for her meat pies that has the people of London lining up, and the carnage has only just begun!

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street explores the consequences of injustice, obsession and the all consuming nature of revenge. At its heart, Sweeney Todd asks us what happens when we allow grief and rage to go unchecked and how easily morality can erode when empathy is replaced by vengeance. It's a reminder that even in our darkest times, our capacity to choose what we do still exists. Originally adapted from a 19th century penny dreadful, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler transformed the macabre legend into one of the most complex and demanding works of musical theatre to date. Since its Broadway premiere in 1979, Sweeney Todd has persisted as an outstanding example of theatre. Through its intricate scores, rich storytelling and unfaultering examination of human nature it continues to challenge both performers and audiences. In creating this production, we wanted to honour both the scope of Sondheim's work and the extraordinary range of talent within MTB. Our goal was to create a version of Sweeney Todd that was accessible to all types of performers, where dancers have space to excel, singers room to shine, and every performer's unique strengths play a vital role in the success of the show. Producing this 35-cast performance has shown me how hard work and community can truly achieve great things, and the importance of every single role both behind and on the stage in piecing together such a brilliant project. As a Director, taking on Sweeney Todd has been both a challenge and a privilege. It has pushed me to grow creatively whilst also deepening my appreciation for ensemble-driven storytelling and collaboration.
